A satellite analysis of the 25 largest operating AI data-centre campuses in the United States found that most showed no credible noise complaints, but three near residential areas faced persistent problems.
Why it mattersThe analysis, published by Migrations Two, says onsite gas generation often worsened the noise. Its author argues that careful siting and acoustic controls can mitigate the issue, making location and operations as important as the data-centre hardware itself. That matters as AI infrastructure expands into communities that must live beside it. The study is an attributed analysis, not a nationwide census, but it gives residents and planners a sharper question than “build or ban”: who pays for making the roar bearable?
Discuss: Should data-centre developers be required to prove noise limits before construction, or is post-build mitigation a fairer and more practical approach?
