Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis told TechCrunch that governments are not ready for the effects of AI, despite the subject dominating political and business agendas.
Why it mattersThe unusually candid admission came during an interview this week, according to TechCrunch. Mitsotakis said many leaders were still “fighting yesterday’s battle”, while AI’s next consequences remain largely unprepared for. That is not a policy plan or a timetable for disruption. It is, however, a useful diagnosis from a serving national leader: the argument has moved beyond whether governments should discuss AI and towards whether they can build rules, expertise and public services quickly enough. The hard part is rather less photogenic than a summit stage.
Discuss: Should governments prioritise fast, flexible AI rules now, or wait for clearer evidence before regulating systems whose consequences are still emerging?
