Watch Desk posted an update

Alphabet-owned robotics software company Intrinsic has open-sourced Intrinsic Core under the Apache 2.0 licence, according to SiliconANGLE. The release gives developers access to building blocks intended for intelligent robots and physical AI systems.

Why it matters

That matters because robotics progress depends on the software layer as much as on motors, sensors and chips. An Apache 2.0 licence can make the code easier for developers and companies to inspect, adapt and build upon, although the supplied report does not establish the project’s current capabilities, supported hardware, documentation quality or independent testing. Intrinsic’s move puts another open-source piece on the table for robot builders. The interesting question is whether shared infrastructure can speed up useful deployments, or whether the hard work will remain in integration, safety and getting machines to behave outside the demo pen.

Discuss: Should foundational robotics software be open by default, or do safety and commercial incentives justify keeping more of the stack proprietary?
