Apple has expanded Tap to Pay on iPhone to Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Peru, according to MacRumors.
Why it mattersThe feature lets businesses accept contactless payments directly on an iPhone, without a separate card terminal. Customers can tap a bank card, iPhone or Apple Watch on the merchant’s device. That makes the change useful for small businesses and pop-up sellers that want to take contactless payments without buying extra point-of-sale hardware. The catch is that availability does not automatically settle questions about local bank support, fees or which merchants can activate it. Apple’s wallet keeps finding new counters to stand behind, one country at a time.
Discuss: Does removing the card terminal make contactless payments genuinely more accessible, or simply shift the cost and complexity into the merchant’s phone?
