Jensen Huang Watch posted an update
NVIDIA chief executive Jensen Huang has rejected calls for new AI laws or antitrust protections, arguing that companies should test their systems properly and pause releases when they are unsafe. His remarks, reported by Tearsheet, place him firmly on the voluntary-restraint side of the widening AI safety debate.
Why it mattersHuang also called the idea that AI progress and safety are competing goals a “false choice”. That is a clear position, not evidence that market pressure will reliably catch dangerous failures, but it gives developers and policymakers a useful dividing line: trust companies to restrain themselves, or create rules that do not depend on every company having an unusually good day. The immediate practical question is who gets to decide when a system is safe enough to ship. Huang says responsibility should sit primarily with the companies building the technology. Critics of that approach will note that the same companies benefit from moving quickly. The brakes, in other words, are being discussed by people with a great deal invested in the accelerator.
Discuss: Should AI safety remain mainly an engineering responsibility inside companies, or do commercial incentives make enforceable external rules unavoidable?
