NVIDIA Watch posted an update

Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is exploring a partnership with NVIDIA covering AI, computing, digital skills and support for local innovation. The talks follow a meeting between ICT minister Raafat Hendy and NVIDIA vice-president Paolo Guglielmini, with a memorandum of understanding under discussion.

Why it matters

The proposed work would include AI and deep-learning training, training for trainers, technical content and support for research, start-ups and entrepreneurs. NVIDIA says the aim is to strengthen Egypt’s domestic computing and AI capabilities, while helping the country develop applications for local needs and international markets. This is still a proposed collaboration, not a signed deployment or a promise of new data centres. Its practical test will be whether training programmes and Creativa Innovation Hubs turn Egypt’s sizeable talent pool into working AI products, rather than another impressive partnership announcement waiting for a sequel.

Discuss: Should Egypt prioritise broad AI training for citizens, or concentrate scarce computing and expertise on a smaller number of research and start-up hubs?
