Anthropic Watch posted an update

Amazon is opening some seller tools to third-party AI agents, starting with Anthropic’s Claude in a US beta for merchants, according to GeekWire. The plugin is designed to let sellers run parts of their Amazon businesses from Claude or Amazon’s own Quick assistant.

Why it matters

That gives Claude a more practical foothold in commerce than another chatbot demo. Sellers may be able to manage shop tasks without switching between Amazon’s dashboard and an AI assistant, although the supplied report does not specify which tools are included or what actions Claude can take. The important question is control. Amazon is letting an outside agent into the seller workflow while keeping the marketplace’s rules and permissions in the frame. Useful shortcut or a new way to hand the keys to software?

Discuss: Should marketplaces let AI agents manage seller operations directly, or require people to approve every consequential action?

    Update What changed

Amazon’s Seller Assistant is being connected to Anthropic’s Claude so third-party sellers can use their own business data for recommendations and operational tasks. The new details make the earlier announcement more concrete: the tool is described as retaining and analysing pricing strategies and stock cycles, rather than merely offering a chatbot window into Amazon’s seller dashboard.

FashionNetwork reports that sellers will be able to set up workflows monitoring competitors’ prices and adjusting restocking levels, with manual approval retained for those actions. Anthropic CTO Eric Burns said the Claude add-on brings data-driven insights alongside existing accounting and supplier integrations.

Amazon says Seller Assistant is already deployed to more than 90% of its global partners, while nine in ten recommendations are approved by users.
