Bessemer Venture Partners has raised $5.75bn in fresh capital, including $4bn earmarked for growth-stage investments, as AI companies attract larger rounds and stay private for longer, Bloomberg reports.
Why it mattersPartner Sameer Dholakia said the firm sees a particularly strong moment for investment across AI applications and physical AI. He also argued that intelligence could eventually become an economic input comparable with oil, which is either a bold thesis or a sentence destined for several investor decks. The useful signal is the money behind the forecast. This is not evidence that AI will deliver the promised returns, but it shows venture investors are preparing to fund software, robotics and infrastructure at a scale that could reshape the technology market. Should investors be building for an AI economy before the technology has proved it can earn one?
Discuss: Should investors commit billions to an AI economy before the technology has demonstrated durable returns, or is that precisely how major technology shifts get funded?
