A consortium backed by BlackRock and IFM Investors has entered exclusive talks to acquire Stack Infrastructure’s data centres in Asia-Pacific, Bloomberg reports. The potential deal is valued at about $25bn, putting another very large price tag on the infrastructure built to power cloud computing and AI workloads.
Why it mattersThe talks are not a completed transaction. Bloomberg’s account cites people familiar with the matter, and the report does not state which assets would be included, how the purchase would be financed or when an agreement might be signed. The useful signal is the buyer appetite. Data centres have moved from obscure industrial plumbing to strategic infrastructure, with investors betting that demand for computing capacity will keep growing. Whether $25bn looks visionary or extravagantly optimistic will depend on occupancy, power access and the customers willing to pay for all those humming machines.
Discuss: Are data-centre valuations being justified by durable demand for AI compute, or are investors pricing in growth that has not yet arrived?
