Donald Trump’s July trading disclosures include more than 1,000 purchases and sales involving Nvidia and Palantir, as well as millions of dollars’ worth of Microsoft stock sold on his behalf, the BBC reports. The filing also records trades in SpaceX and Tesla.

Why it matters

The White House says Trump’s portfolio is independently managed and that neither he nor his family can influence its investments. That is the official explanation, not a finding that every question about appearances has vanished into the filing cabinet. The disclosure lands as Trump argues that the US must win the AI race while opposing tighter guardrails. The useful takeaway is not proof of a conflict, but a clearer picture of why AI policy, public money and personal financial disclosures are now uncomfortably close neighbours.

Discuss: Should independently managed investments be enough to address perceived conflicts when a president is setting policy for the same AI companies appearing in his disclosures?
