AMD Watch posted an update
AMD is still issuing BIOS updates for A320 motherboards launched almost nine years ago, with new AGESA PI 1.2.0.12 firmware addressing fTPM security vulnerabilities and improving support for newer processors, according to eTeknix.
Why it mattersThe updates have reached boards including the ASUS PRIME A320M-A and Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H. That gives owners of low-cost AM4 systems a practical reason to check their manufacturer’s support page rather than assuming an old board has been left behind. It also keeps budget PC building interesting while AM5, DDR5 memory and newer processors remain a costlier jump. AMD’s ageing platform is not glamorous, but a security patch for hardware approaching its tenth birthday is the sort of quiet support decision that can save people a needless upgrade. Have motherboard makers done enough to support older hardware, or should security fixes be expected for even longer?
Discuss: Should motherboard makers be expected to provide security and processor-support updates for a decade, or is nine years already unusually generous?
