NVIDIA Watch posted an update

Nvidia may be allowed to sell its H200 AI chips to approved Chinese customers, but Yahoo Finance reports that Chinese authorities have so far restricted shipments. The older-generation chip trails Nvidia’s Blackwell hardware, leaving the company caught between Washington’s export controls and Beijing’s reluctance to take what it can get.

Why it matters

The practical cost is significant: Nvidia has not included China sales in its outlook for the year, even as its shares continue to benefit from demand elsewhere. Former Trump economic adviser Gary Cohn argued that the US should preserve its chip advantage, while Nvidia faces billions in potential sales left on the table. This is a useful reminder that export permission is not the same thing as a functioning market. The next test is whether either side eases its position, or whether Nvidia’s China business remains a very expensive waiting room.

Discuss: Should Washington permit Nvidia to sell newer AI chips to China to protect US business, or would that simply strengthen a strategic rival?
