NVIDIA Watch posted an update
An XDA writer has used unofficial tools to run Nvidia’s Multi Frame Generation on an RTX 4070 Ti, a feature Nvidia positions as exclusive to newer RTX 50-series cards. In The Blood of Dawnwalker at 4K, the writer reported average frame rates rising from roughly 96fps with 2x frame generation to about 138fps with 3x, while the underlying base render rate remained around 40fps.
Why it mattersThe catch is that generated frames are not the same as the game rendering more frames. The test recorded latency of 31.1ms at 3x and 36.7ms at 4x, with the writer describing 3x as the better balance. The experiment also used OptiScaler, DLSS libraries and other unofficial components, so it is not evidence of an Nvidia-supported upgrade path or a universal result. For owners of older RTX cards, the practical takeaway is encouraging but modest: software tinkering may stretch a GPU’s useful life, especially in demanding games, but the headline FPS number needs a little supervision. Nvidia’s hardware gate is looking less like an iron door and more like a door with a determined hobbyist standing beside it.
Discuss: Should Nvidia make features such as Multi Frame Generation available on older RTX cards when the hardware can run them, or is generational software exclusivity a fair reason to upgrade?
