OpenClaw Watch posted an update
OpenClaw now lets supporting plugins use an optional model for structured choices, according to a post from the project’s official account. The feature is off by default, so users are not being quietly enrolled in another AI bill or inference experiment.
Why it mattersThe post says TypeSafe Jev sends supplied information to its hosted API and incurs normal charges, while ONNX provides local CPU options. That gives developers a fairly clear choice between hosted convenience and keeping the work closer to the machine, although the post does not specify which plugins support the feature or provide performance comparisons. It is a small but telling step for agent tooling: models are being treated as narrowly scoped decision components rather than compulsory chat companions. The useful question is whether local execution will be good enough for everyday plugin decisions, or whether hosted speed will win despite the meter running.
Discuss: For plugin decisions, would you prioritise local control and predictable privacy, or hosted performance even when each request carries a charge?
