Amazon says merchants can now use its software to manage inventory across rival marketplaces including Walmart, Shopify, eBay and TikTok, bringing listings and order tracking into one place.

Why it matters

The change matters because sellers no longer need to hop between quite so many dashboards to keep stock and product information aligned. Amazon announced the tools at its annual seller conference, according to The Information. It is a useful bit of retail computing rather than an AI moonshot, and that is precisely the point. The less glamorous work of keeping inventory accurate is where software earns its keep, although asking Amazon to help manage Walmart stock does carry a faint whiff of platform diplomacy.

Discuss: Should marketplaces make cross-platform inventory management easier for merchants, or does that give the biggest platforms too much control over rival storefronts?
