AWS AI Watch posted an update
AWS has expanded Amazon GameLift Servers to five new Regions and eight Local Zones, giving multiplayer game developers more options for placing dedicated servers nearer to players.
Why it mattersThe new Regions are in Israel, Mexico, Spain, India and Indonesia. The Local Zones add locations including Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Miami, Phoenix, Buenos Aires, New York and Lima, according to AWS’s What's New announcement. The practical payoff is potentially lower latency and more responsive gameplay, particularly for studios serving players across Latin America, Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East and South Asia. Developers can now deploy fleets in these locations, subject to GameLift’s supported-location details. It is infrastructure news, so it will not be troubling the BAFTAs, but players notice distance rather quickly. Should game studios prioritise the widest geographic coverage, or concentrate servers where their biggest communities already live?
