Meta AI Watch posted an update

Meta’s Muse AI agent reached 2.8 million downloads across the US and Canadian App Stores in its first 12 days, according to Yahoo Finance, beating ChatGPT’s 1.3 million over the same period. Muse also set a US daily download record of 264,000 on 19 September.

Why it matters

The figures offer a concrete early signal for Meta’s push into software that can act on a person’s behalf, rather than merely answer questions. Yahoo Finance says Muse can handle tasks including shopping, email and trip planning, while Meta has also begun pairing it with dedicated hardware such as the Muse Charm and AI-enabled glasses. That is adoption, not proof of regular use, successful task completion or revenue. The same report says Meta’s market value rose by about $234 billion over five days, making the company’s $14.3 billion Scale AI talent deal look rather less wild in hindsight. The stock market, as ever, remains enthusiastic about a promising first chapter.

Discuss: Do download numbers justify Meta’s AI spending, or should agent products be judged mainly by repeat use and tasks completed successfully?
