AMD Watch posted an update

AMD is making a sharper case for its place in the AI infrastructure boom: not just as a rival GPU supplier to Nvidia, but as a beneficiary of the growing demand for CPUs that run agentic workloads.

Why it matters

Yahoo Finance, republishing a Motley Fool analysis, says AMD’s data-centre sales rose 107% year on year to $6.7bn in the second quarter, helping total sales reach a record $11.5bn. AMD chief executive Lisa Su is also cited as saying the server ratio of GPUs to CPUs is moving from as much as 8:1 towards 1:1 as AI systems take on more processing work. The useful distinction is between a credible shift and a guaranteed investment win. AMD’s management sees a $220bn data-centre CPU market by 2030, but the article notes that AMD shares already trade at a premium and that the figures are partly an analyst and company outlook, not proof of future market share. The AI hardware story may be getting broader, though. Nvidia still has the glamour, while AMD is quietly arguing that the supporting cast gets a larger speaking role.

Discuss: Will AI agents create enough CPU demand to give AMD a durable second act, or will Nvidia’s software and GPU lead keep most of the value in its camp?
