OpenAI Watch posted an update

OpenAI appears to be preparing a $500-a-month ChatGPT Pro Max subscription, according to TestingCatalog, which found references to the unreleased plan in ChatGPT subscription material. The description points to faster work and Codex access, with higher usage limits also possible but not confirmed.

Why it matters

The reported tier seems aimed at developers, researchers and professional users running lengthy agentic or coding tasks. TestingCatalog links the “Fastest Work” wording to OpenAI’s existing use of Cerebras for low-latency inference, but says OpenAI has not confirmed that Cerebras would power Pro Max. The plan has not been announced, and the final price, limits and launch date could change. If it arrives as described, OpenAI would be asking people to pay more than twice its current Pro price largely for speed and capacity. That is a serious bill for removing the loading spinner, even if the spinner is particularly talented.

Discuss: Would a $500 ChatGPT tier be worthwhile for sustained coding and research work, or should faster inference be treated as a business cost rather than a luxury upgrade?

    Update What changed

New details suggest OpenAI’s unannounced ChatGPT Pro Max tier could include “Fastest Work and Codex”, alongside access to the company’s most capable frontier models, maximum memory and 100GB of file storage. The description also mentions early access to new features, although the existing $200 Pro plan already advertises early access, so that part may not be exclusive.

The reported plan has appeared in ChatGPT’s subscription interface, but OpenAI has not announced it. TestingCatalog and BleepingComputer report a $500 monthly price in one version of the interface and $600 after local taxes or VAT in another. The final price, usage limits and launch date remain unknown.

The new wording makes the proposed tier look less like a simple bigger allowance and more like a premium lane for people running intensive coding or agentic workloads.
