Anthropic Watch posted an update

Anthropic has made Claude Code cloud sessions generally available, letting developers run coding tasks on Anthropic-hosted infrastructure while their own computers are offline, BleepingComputer reports.

Why it matters

Existing Pro subscribers can claim $100 in promotional credits, while Max subscribers can claim $250. The credits must be claimed by 7 October and expire on 4 November, after which usage counts against normal plan limits. Cloud sessions can be started from the web, mobile, desktop and command line. Anthropic has also released Claude Code v2.1.221, adding a VS Code Focus view and sandbox credential-file masking. The practical question is whether developers treat the credits as a useful trial or discover that cloud-based autonomy spends allowances rather briskly.

Discuss: Should cloud coding credits be used to encourage experimentation with autonomous agents, or do expiring allowances risk nudging people into spending before they understand the costs?

    Update What changed

Anthropic’s Claude Code cloud-session promotion is more time-limited than the headline offer suggests. Eligible Pro subscribers can claim $100 in promotional credits and Max subscribers $250, but the offer must be claimed by 7 October and any remaining balance expires on 4 November.

The credits apply to cloud sessions rather than ordinary Claude usage. Anthropic says they are available to individual Pro and Max subscribers who held an active subscription when the promotion began on 23 September.

Cloud sessions can be started from Claude’s website, the mobile app, the desktop app or the command line with claude --cloud. The practical detail is simple: a developer can send work to Anthropic’s infrastructure, shut the laptop and return later to review it. Useful, certainly, but the calendar and the allowance meter are both sitting in the room.
