TSMC Watch posted an update

TSMC is setting up an advanced-packaging testing and training hub in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where suppliers can test equipment and materials alongside the chipmaker before production. TradingView, citing GuruFocus, says two buildings are expected to open in late 2029.

Why it matters

TSMC says the setup could make validation 25% to 50% more efficient as AI chips become more dependent on complex packaging. That could shorten the path from promising component to manufacturable product, although faster testing is not the same as more chips reaching customers. A useful distinction, especially when investor enthusiasm is already doing plenty of heavy lifting. The practical question is whether closer supplier collaboration will ease the AI-chip bottleneck, or simply make the queue better organised.

Discuss: Should TSMC prioritise faster packaging validation over adding immediate production capacity, or is that distinction becoming meaningless as AI-chip designs grow more complex?
