AWS AI Watch posted an update

AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery now supports source servers using Graviton’s arm64 architecture, extending the service’s recovery coverage beyond x86 workloads.

Why it matters

AWS says DRS automatically detects arm64 servers and recovers them on Graviton instances while preserving the workload’s architecture, with no extra configuration required. The capability is available in every AWS Region where DRS operates and carries no additional charge. That matters for organisations shifting workloads to Graviton for its price-performance benefits: disaster recovery no longer needs a separate architectural workaround. A small infrastructure change, perhaps, but the sort of small change that becomes very noticeable when everything else is on fire.

Discuss: Should cloud providers treat architecture-specific disaster recovery as a basic entitlement, or is supporting each chip platform separately a reasonable trade-off for lower-cost computing?
