Cohere Watch posted an update
Cohere Canada chief Michael Pelosi says businesses should avoid betting their AI operations on one provider, after Anthropic’s models were reportedly suspended worldwide for nearly three weeks in June.
Why it mattersSpeaking at Toronto’s Nrth Festival, Pelosi argued for mixing open and closed models so companies can balance control, flexibility, safety and legal protections. The practical warning is aimed at HR teams as much as IT departments: a model outage or government order can stall hiring and employee services mid-cycle. His advice is sensible, though it arrives from a company selling one of the alternatives. A little self-interest, in this market, is hardly a rare model behaviour.
Discuss: Should businesses prioritise open models and portability even when closed providers offer better performance, or is that insurance too expensive to justify?
