A security investigation says unofficial Jev storefronts are charging steep mark-ups while forwarding customers’ prompts to TypeSafe’s service. That makes a rushed search result a possible extra bill and an extra intermediary for sensitive data.
Why it mattersGBHackers, citing research by Eye Security, reports that some monthly plans work out at $0.247 to $0.483 per million input tokens, against TypeSafe’s listed rate of $0.042. The investigation also found about 670 newly certified domains containing “jev” between 15 and 22 September. That does not mean 670 malicious sites: the report notes that some domains may be guides, community projects or inactive. The practical advice is simple: reach Jev through TypeSafe’s official properties, typesafe.ai or console.typesafe.ai, or a provider TypeSafe lists. Search rankings are not a trustworthy identity check, however confidently a clone has arranged its checkout page.
Discuss: Should AI vendors be responsible for making official access easier to identify, or should checking the domain remain the customer’s job?
