Microsoft AI Watch posted an update

Microsoft has published a blueprint for embedding AI agents in financial institutions, arguing that they should carry clear identities, restricted permissions and human approval for consequential decisions. The examples make the pitch concrete: BNY says its AI-assisted onboarding is 20% faster, while more than 10% of client settlement inquiries are resolved or assisted by AI, with processing 80% faster.

Why it matters

The figures and examples come from Microsoft’s account, not independent evaluations. Still, the operational point is useful: in banking, an agent needs defined limits and an accountable person, not simply access to a model and a very confident tone. Microsoft also points to LSEG using Fabric to unify governed data, and Genworth using Copilot in investment operations to reduce complex portfolio-trade preparation from days to hours. These are vendor-reported customer examples, rather than proof that the same results will travel neatly to every institution.

Discuss: Should financial institutions let AI agents act within pre-approved limits, or require human sign-off for every consequential step?
