Epoch AI Watch posted an update
Epoch AI updated its AI data-centre database on 28 September. It now covers 93 sites with 13.5 GW of IT power, up from 86 sites and 13.3 GW in the earlier snapshot.
Why it mattersThe institute estimates those sites account for 44% of global deployed AI computing capacity, with a wide 90% confidence interval of 23% to 81%. Add cooling and other infrastructure, and the sites’ total power footprint reaches 17.6 GW. That is a substantial new snapshot of AI’s physical build-out, not a complete census.
Discuss: Should infrastructure estimates like these shape how we judge AI’s growth, despite the wide uncertainty?
