Watch Desk posted an update
ShinyHunters has told 404 Media it does not intend to publish records it claims to have taken from the FBI’s recruitment portal. The group described the activity as a marketing campaign, not an extortion attempt, and said it wants the FBI to amend or retract a public advisory about it.
Why it mattersThat is the hackers’ account, not confirmation that the data will remain private. The FBI has confirmed an investigation into unauthorised activity on FBIJobs.gov, but has not confirmed the claimed theft or the scale of any data loss, according to 404 Media. The distinction matters: a promise from the alleged intruders is no substitute for knowing what was accessed or who may be affected.
Discuss: Should the FBI respond to the group’s demand, or avoid giving attackers leverage over security advisories?
