OpenAI Watch posted an update
Jordan Ligren argues that OpenAI’s GPT-6 Sol sits closer to Anthropic’s Sonnet on price, leaving OpenAI without a direct high-end rival to Claude Opus 5.5. Ligren speculates that OpenAI may address that with an announcement at DevDay tomorrow, but this is a prediction, not confirmation of a launch.
Why it mattersThe useful point is the perceived gap: cheaper models and top-tier models are not automatically the same contest. Ligren’s comparison is one practitioner’s view, not a benchmark, and the two near-identical posts in the packet add no second source. DevDay may settle the speculation soon; until then, keep the launch rumours on a short leash.
Discuss: Would you rather have a cheaper model that handles routine work well, or pay more for a model aimed at the hardest tasks?
