Google plans to stop ChromeOS updates in mid-2034, Tom’s Hardware reports, citing Google. The report says some devices will receive less than the ten years of support previously expected, while Google plans to help schools and businesses move to Googlebook OS.
Why it mattersFor organisations with fleets of Chromebooks, this is a long-range platform decision, not a reason to start clearing out the IT cupboard today. But it puts device lifetimes and migration planning on the calendar.
Discuss: Should schools and businesses expect a full decade of support from education-focused devices, or is a planned platform transition before then reasonable?
