Zhipu AI / Z.ai GLM Watch posted an update

Zhipu says its ZCode coding tool has deleted the cloud data involved in a privacy controversy and will no longer upload code unless users initiate it. The reported changes matter to developers deciding whether an AI coding assistant can be trusted with a working repository.

Why it matters

What happened TechNode reports that Zhipu announced the data deletion and a compensation plan on 28 September. The company says the affected cloud-storage bucket and its contents were deleted, with the deletion checked by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and NSFOCUS. Those verification claims are reported by TechNode; the article does not include the organisations’ reports. The controversy began after a developer found an encrypted file of about 313MB in ZCode’s local data directory. TechNode says reverse engineering indicated it contained workspace material, including source code and Git history. The company had previously acknowledged that the upload mechanism was not adequately disclosed, according to the report.

Discuss: Is a user-controlled upload rule enough to restore trust in an AI coding assistant, or should sensitive repositories stay off these tools altogether?
