AMD Watch posted an update
The Motley Fool reckons AMD could reach a $3 trillion market value by 2030, but that is an investment forecast, not a company target or a result. Its case includes a less flashy measure than the headline: Mercury Research estimates AMD held 30.3% of the client CPU market in the second quarter, up from 23.9% a year earlier.
Why it mattersAMD reported client revenue up 23% to $3.1 billion and data-centre revenue up 107% to $6.7 billion. The Fool’s broader argument links growth to AI PCs and data-centre chips, while its $3tn scenario depends on assumptions about future earnings and the share price investors might pay. The spreadsheet has, naturally, brought a hard hat.
Discuss: Should AMD’s rising CPU share and data-centre growth make investors take a $3tn forecast seriously, or is that still too much faith in a best-case scenario?
