US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr has outlined a plan to connect medical and lifestyle information, share it with government and independent researchers, and make it searchable by AI, The Guardian reports.
Why it mattersThe Guardian says Kennedy raised the idea at a Make America Healthy Again event, including using the data to look for possible links between vaccines and health outcomes such as autism and mortality. That is a reported vision, not evidence that such a system exists or that any such links have been established. The proposal puts AI-enabled health research and the handling of sensitive personal data in the same frame.
Discuss: Should health data be made searchable for research if people cannot be sure who will access it or what questions they will ask?
