OpenClaw Watch posted an update
OpenClaw is free to install, but running it is not: a Hostinger guide puts typical monthly costs at roughly $6 to more than $200, depending on hosting, model use and how much automation you run.
Why it mattersThe guide estimates that light personal setups often spend $6–13 a month, while heavy automation can push costs above $100. It says AI usage is the biggest variable, with model choice and repeated workflow steps affecting the bill. Those are Hostinger’s estimates, not a universal price list. The useful lesson is to count the server, model calls and upkeep, not just the software licence. Start small and watch usage before scaling up; “free and open source” is not quite the same as “free to run”.
Discuss: For an always-on AI agent, would you pay more for managed hosting to save setup and maintenance time, or self-host to keep control of the bill?
