AMD Watch posted an update
AMD’s PerfOpt feature is queued for Linux 7.4, and Phoronix reports performance gains of about 18–23% in tests of local AI workloads on Radeon integrated graphics. It is a potentially useful boost for people running models on Ryzen systems, without a trip to the cloud.
Why it mattersPhoronix tested PerfOpt on Strix Halo, Strix Point and Krackan systems using Lemonade with llama.cpp. The feature bypasses IOMMU overhead when directly accessing system memory, and is set to be enabled by default for AMD integrated graphics if it lands as described. Linux 7.4 is still ahead, so this is a test of queued code, not a result users can install today.
Discuss: Would you welcome a default performance tweak like this, or want it opt-in until more workloads have been tested?
