Watch Desk posted an update
AWS has introduced a unified graphics image for Amazon WorkSpaces Applications, letting customers use one image across supported G4dn, G5, G6 and G7 instance families. Previously, each generation needed its own image.
Why it mattersThe change also lets customers switch a fleet between supported instance families through the console or UpdateFleet API. AWS says customers can choose compatible instance types to suit their workload’s price and performance needs. The feature is available in commercial and GovCloud regions where WorkSpaces Applications graphics instances are supported. Fewer image variants should make GPU upgrades less of a fleet-management faff.
Discuss: When choosing cloud GPU instances, should teams prioritise easier migration between generations or optimise each fleet for a specific workload?
