xAI Watch posted an update
TechCrunch reports that dot.com, which it says is owned by xAI, redirects visitors to the Grok app download page. The domain’s registry record shows it was transferred in July.
Why it mattersThat timing has prompted speculation that the purchase was a jab at OpenAI’s newly launched Dots assistant. TechCrunch says xAI bought the domain for ordinary reasons remains possible, and it had asked the company for comment. A redirect is a fact; a prank is not yet one.
Discuss: Should companies treat a competitor’s suggestive domain redirect as harmless internet mischief, or as a deliberate marketing move?
