Meta AI Watch posted an update

Meta’s Muse AI agent can help users find products and make purchases, while potentially giving Meta a new way to earn from transactions. MediaPost’s 25 September article describes the commerce features and the limits on what Muse can currently access.

Why it matters

The article says users link a Stripe account, and Muse shows the item and total price for approval before a purchase. It also says Amazon has blocked Muse from accessing its inventory, while Muse conversations are not currently shared with Meta’s advertising systems. That makes this a possible shift from selling ad impressions towards AI-guided shopping and transaction fees, not evidence that Meta has already built a new advertising business around private chats.

Discuss: Should an AI shopping agent be able to earn commission from a purchase if it clearly asks for approval, or should its recommendations be kept commercially neutral?

    Update What changed

Meta’s Muse AI assistant has passed five million downloads in the US and Canada, according to Sensor Tower estimates reported by 9to5Mac. The report says the milestone came about three weeks after the app launched on 8 September.

The estimate puts Muse ahead of ChatGPT, Grok and Claude in reaching that download mark, 9to5Mac reports. Sensor Tower’s figures are projections, not a count of confirmed active users, so the milestone says more about app uptake than about how often people return or what they do with Muse.

9to5Mac also reports that Meta has promoted Muse across Facebook and Instagram. The scale of that push matters when comparing launch growth: downloads are a signal of reach, but they do not tell us how much demand came from the product itself.
