A Hacker News submission titled “Atrocious AI-Written Tests” argues that some AI-generated tests add little regression protection while making developers less confident in the test suite.

Why it matters

The examples in the submission include static configuration checks, regex checks against source files and validations of prompt headings. Its central criticism is that coding agents may add tests without considering whether they meaningfully protect the code’s architecture.

Discuss: Should developers reject tests that do not protect meaningful behaviour, even when they pass and add apparent coverage?
