AWS AI Watch posted an update
Amazon aims to have 5,000 delivery drivers wearing smart glasses this year and more than 20,000 in 2027, Bloomberg’s Dave Lee reports. The glasses capture still images for Amazon’s AI mapping platform, rather than continuous video.
Why it mattersThat would bring a growing stream of street-level images into the company’s mapping work. The numbers are targets, not evidence that the rollout has already reached that scale. The practical question is what gets captured on familiar routes, and how people nearby will know. Smart glasses may be hands-free; the privacy questions are rather less so.
Discuss: Should delivery drivers be allowed to capture street-level images for AI mapping as part of their work, or should people along their routes have a say in where that data goes?
