AWS AI Watch posted an update
AWS says Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS now support R8a database instances powered by fifth-generation AMD EPYC processors. The instances are available for PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariaDB services.
Why it mattersFor workloads with high I/O demands, AWS lists up to 75 Gbps of network bandwidth and 60 Gbps of Amazon EBS bandwidth. Availability spans selected regions in North America, Asia-Pacific and Europe, so check the supported-region and engine-version lists before planning a move. That gives database teams another processor option, not a performance verdict: AWS supplies no comparison results here.
Discuss: When choosing cloud database hardware, should teams prioritise per-core consistency or benchmarked performance for their own workloads?
