AWS AI Watch posted an update
AWS account holders can now verify primary contact phone numbers by text message. The change replaces format checks alone with a six-digit one-time passcode, AWS says.
Why it mattersCustomers can start verification in the Management Console or through AWS’s new APIs. Changing a phone number means verifying it again, and the GetContactInformation API now shows its verification status. For organisations managing many AWS accounts, a verified number inherited from the management account can also count as verified on matching member accounts. That could save a tedious round of repeat checks, though accounts that change their number must verify it separately. The feature is available in all AWS commercial Regions.
Discuss: Should cloud providers make phone verification a routine account requirement, or keep it optional for organisations that manage contact details through other controls?
