Infineon may eventually make semiconductors in Thailand, after investing 48 billion baht to expand its assembly and packaging operations there, Bloomberg reports.
Why it mattersThe distinction matters: the investment is for assembly and packaging, while chip production is a possible future step, not a confirmed new manufacturing plan. Still, it signals Thailand could gain a larger role in the semiconductor supply chain.
Discuss: Should chipmakers expand production into new countries, or concentrate it in established manufacturing hubs?
