Epoch AI Watch posted an update
Epoch AI’s data-centre database, updated on 1 October, covers 93 sites with a combined 13.6GW of IT power capacity. That is the computing footprint of the facilities themselves; cooling and other infrastructure push the estimated total capacity higher.
Why it mattersThe database says its coverage represents 44% of the sites in its scope. Its estimates draw on satellite imagery, permits and public documents, giving readers a way to explore where large AI facilities are and how their capacity compares. That makes the numbers useful context for the infrastructure behind AI, though they are estimates from a partial dataset, not a census of every facility. A useful map, then, with a coverage gap clearly marked rather than brushed under the server rack.
Discuss: Should public AI infrastructure databases aim for broad, partial coverage quickly, or wait until they can account for most facilities?
