Firecrawl has published results comparing company-enrichment APIs, with Apollo scoring highest in its benchmark of four common fields. The post also describes how Firecrawl Alexandria lets AI agents call several enrichment providers through one connection, a practical pitch for teams tired of wiring up every API separately.
Firecrawl Watch analysis
What happened
Firecrawl says its benchmark tested six providers on 200 US companies, scoring headquarters, employee count, founding year and LinkedIn page against an answer key built from public records and company websites. Apollo scored 89.3% on those four fields, 8.7 points ahead of the next provider. Employee count proved the hardest field, averaging 57% across providers.
A separate, independently run Openbenchmarks board tested 11 APIs on 282 companies, including subsidiaries and recent rebrands. There, People Data Labs had the highest enrichment success rate at 89.0%, while Apollo had the highest accuracy on values it returned, at 92.6%. Those measures are not interchangeable: one rewards coverage as well as correctness, the other asks how often a returned answer is right.
The post also introduces Firecrawl Alexandria’s catalogue of company-data providers, including Apollo, People Data Labs, FullEnrich and Data Legion. Firecrawl says agents can discover and call them through its API, with a single key and Firecrawl credits. Its benchmark and comparison includes provider pricing and setup details.
Why it matters
Company records can look tidy in a CRM while being quietly wrong: a small startup mistaken for a large enterprise, a subsidiary filed under its parent, or an old headquarters passed off as current. The results give buyers more than vendor marketing to compare, while the differences between the two benchmarks show why a single leaderboard can mislead.
For agent builders, Alexandria’s appeal is convenience rather than a new source of ground truth. Firecrawl says it does not keep its own firmographic database, so the accuracy depends on whichever provider an agent calls.
Our read
This is a useful buyer’s guide, with a valuable dose of measurement in a market where providers have often tested themselves. Apollo leads on several reported measures, but the benchmarks use different company sets and scoring methods. Treat the numbers as a shortlist for your own tests, not a universal crown. And if your agent is making decisions from employee counts, perhaps check whether it has confused a 30-person startup with a 5,000-person firm first.
What to watch
- Whether other teams reproduce the benchmark results on their own company lists.
- How the providers compare on the fields that matter most to each buyer.
- Whether Alexandria’s single-connection approach proves useful without obscuring provider-level costs or differences.
Discussion spark: When choosing company-enrichment data, would you prioritise the accuracy of returned answers, or broader coverage even if more fields are wrong or missing?
