Allstate says it plans to introduce a personal AI assistant for customers in early 2027, designed to handle insurance transactions and give people context about their coverage needs. The company is developing it around its existing AI system, ALLIE, and says the underlying technology is in place and the algorithms are being tested.

What happened

CEO Tom Wilson described the planned assistant during an earnings call, according to Insurance Journal’s report. Allstate has not named the product. The company says it will work with existing personal assistants, such as Muse, and would let customers who prefer not to call an agent or use the website handle transactions through an assistant instead.

Allstate already offers Ask Allstate, a customer-service agent that handles enquiries. The new assistant is a further step, with Wilson describing plans for an assistant focused on protection and capable of providing context about customers’ coverage needs. He said the company would work through regulatory, privacy and cybersecurity questions as development continues.

Why it matters

This is a move from an AI tool that answers enquiries towards one intended to help customers transact with an insurer. If it works as described, people could have another route to manage insurance without a call or website visit. It also puts a practical question on the table: when software handles a customer’s insurance needs, how clearly will it explain what coverage does and does not provide?

Our read

The useful promise is convenience with some insurance context, not merely a chatbot bolted onto a homepage. But “the algorithms are being tested” is a progress update, not evidence that the assistant is ready or that it will make good decisions. Allstate itself says privacy, cybersecurity and regulatory work remains ahead. We would judge this by the quality of the help customers actually receive, not by how agentic the label sounds.

What to watch

  • Whether Allstate announces the assistant’s name, capabilities and launch date.
  • How it explains coverage and handles requests that need a human agent.
  • What safeguards the company puts in place for customer data, cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.

Discussion spark: Should an AI assistant be allowed to handle insurance transactions directly, or should it be limited to guidance until customers can easily reach a human agent?
