AWS AgentCore CLI 1.0.0-rc.5 adds a large set of project-creation wizards, a new exec command and a more capable terminal interface. It is a release candidate, not a finished 1.0 launch, but it gives developers a much clearer preview of how AWS wants AgentCore projects to be built and managed.

AWS AI Watch analysis

What happened

The release adds guided project wizards for resources including gateways, harnesses, evaluations, payment tools, credentials and Bedrock Managed Agents. It also introduces an exec command in the CLI and terminal UI, adds China-region support behind feature gates, and supports credential rotation for payment connectors. Read the v1.0.0-rc.5 release notes.

The terminal interface gains cursor navigation in text areas, improved resizing and scrolling, and an update notification. AWS also says the release adds Windows end-to-end tests and updates generated project templates.

Our top picks

  • Guided project creation
Wizards cover a broad range of AgentCore resources, giving newcomers a more direct route from the CLI to a configured project.
  • A new exec command
The command is available in both the CLI and terminal interface, extending how developers can work with runtimes.
  • Bedrock Managed Agents templates
Projects can now use a Bedrock Managed Agents template, with the release also setting its Python requirement to 3.12 or later.
  • China-region support
Feature-gated support for the AWS China region expands the CLI’s stated deployment scope.
  • Credential rotation for payment connectors
The release adds a way to rotate connector credentials, a practical maintenance task rather than a decorative menu item.
  • A more usable terminal interface
Cursor navigation, improved scrolling and resizing, and clearer menus should make longer CLI sessions less fiddly.

Why it matters

This is a substantial shift towards a guided, project-centred workflow. Instead of relying only on individual commands, developers can use the terminal interface to create and configure a wider range of AgentCore resources. That may lower the entry barrier, while also giving experienced users a more consistent way to manage projects.

The release notes describe a candidate build, so the useful question is not whether every feature is settled, but which parts survive into the stable release and work reliably across environments. Windows testing and China-region support are notable additions, but neither is a substitute for checking compatibility in a real setup.

Our read

There is enough here to earn more than a fleeting changelog ping: the wizards, exec command and expanded terminal controls change how developers can approach AgentCore. If you are evaluating the CLI, try the workflows relevant to your project and treat this candidate as a preview, not a production green light. A menu full of wizards is promising; the real test is whether it gets you to a working project without a side quest.

What to watch

  • Which of the new project wizards and commands make it into the stable 1.0 release.
  • Whether the terminal workflow works smoothly across supported operating systems.
  • How the feature-gated China-region support behaves in practice.

Discussion spark: Would guided project wizards make you more likely to build with AgentCore, or do you prefer composing resources directly from CLI commands?
