Glance, the AI-driven shopping platform backed by Jio Platforms, has raised fresh equity from investment firm L Catterton to support its international expansion. The amount was not disclosed, but the deal backs a push to bring agentic shopping to more of the screens people already use.

Watch Desk analysis

What happened

Glance said it had issued fresh equity shares to L Catterton, a consumer-focused investment firm. The company plans to use the investment to accelerate expansion of its AI-driven shopping service into global markets, according to Outlook India’s report, which cites a PTI dispatch.

Glance uses idle mobile and television screens to show commerce and other content. The report says the service is available on millions of devices in the US through partnerships with Samsung, Motorola and DIRECTV, and that Glance recently expanded onto Android TV in the US, India and Japan with Google.

Why it matters

The investment gives Glance a new financial backer as it tries to move shopping beyond search and into AI-assisted product discovery. Its distribution partnerships offer a route to put that proposition in front of consumers without asking them to begin at a shopping site or app.

The practical test is whether screen placement turns into useful discovery and purchases, rather than more commerce people did not ask to see. The funding amount and the specific expansion plans remain undisclosed.

Our read

This is a meaningful vote of confidence in agentic commerce, but not evidence yet that shoppers want an AI to do the browsing for them. Glance has reach through device partnerships; the next question is whether that reach produces an experience people choose to use.

What to watch

  • Whether Glance names new markets or device partners.
  • How the company describes the investment’s scale and use.
  • Whether it shares evidence of shopper engagement or purchases.

Discussion spark: Would you welcome AI shopping suggestions on a phone or TV lock screen, or should commerce stay out of screens you did not open to shop?
