Google and Huntington National Bank have introduced the 1866 Studio, an AI-powered platform intended to help small businesses manage work across their lifecycle. Its proposed tools range from business-launch steps and marketing campaigns to assessing readiness for a loan, putting practical tasks, not just chat, at the centre of the pitch.

What happened

The Studio is built using Google’s Gemini AI platform, according to PYMNTS’ account of Google’s announcement on 19 October. Huntington says the platform will combine agentic AI workflows with personalised expert content and an assistant for monitoring business operations and finances, as well as managing daily work.

The announced examples include help with launching a business, creating marketing campaigns and evaluating financial readiness when applying for loans. Huntington says the product is intended to develop over time to support businesses from their initial idea through growth and, eventually, a sale or succession.

Why it matters

Small-business owners often have to juggle finance, operations and marketing without specialist teams for each. A system designed to connect guidance with actions across those jobs could be more useful than another assistant that answers questions but leaves the work elsewhere.

The announcement describes what the Studio is meant to offer, not evidence that it improves business results or loan access. That distinction matters when a tool is being pitched for financial decisions as well as everyday tasks.

Our read

There is a clear, appealing idea here: bring useful advice and task-focused AI together around the work a small business actually has to do. The real test will be whether the workflows save owners time and help them make better decisions, without making consequential financial choices feel simpler than they are.

What to watch

  • Which workflows are available when the Studio launches, and whether they work across different business needs.
  • How the platform handles business data and keeps owners in control of decisions.
  • Whether Google or Huntington publishes evidence of measurable benefits for small businesses.

Discussion spark: For a small business, would an AI platform that combines advice with actions be genuinely useful, or would you rather keep finance, marketing and operations in separate tools?
