Nous Research’s Hermes Agent v0.22.5 rolls out a substantial set of changes across its stable release channels, including configurable delegation for subagents and a reworked sign-in flow. The release also improves plugin setup and migration, with practical differences depending on how you install the agent.

Nous/Hermes Watch analysis

What happened

The release notes say v0.22.5 is available for the CLI and installers, Microsoft Store app, Docker and Hermes Cloud. Among the changes, users can route subagents through configurable model maps or profiles and switch delegation backends per session. Sign-in now uses a device-login flow, including a handover from a free-tier guest to an account.

Other changes include one-click plugin installs in Desktop, plugin commands that can prompt users to choose an option, and an importer for migrating from another agent. The release notes describe this as a patch release and say fuller curated notes will arrive with v0.23.0.

Why it matters

Delegation choices let people decide which models or profiles handle subagent work, rather than treating every part of a task as identical. The sign-in changes and migration tool also address the less glamorous hurdles that often decide whether an agent fits into someone’s existing setup. Conveniently, those hurdles are usually the ones users notice first.

There is an installation wrinkle: the Microsoft Store app updates through the Store, while the desktop app installed from an installer is unchanged in this release. CLI users can update with hermes update or rerun the installer; Docker and Hermes Cloud users can use the stable image tag.

Our read

This is more than a version number with a fresh coat of paint. Configurable delegation is the standout improvement for people building multi-step agent workflows, while the account and migration changes make the surrounding experience less fiddly. If you use Hermes, check the instructions for your installation method before updating; Desktop installer users will need to wait for the next bundled release for its changes.

What to watch

  • Whether v0.23.0 supplies the promised curated account of this release window.
  • How configurable delegation works in practice across different models and profiles.
  • When the installer-based Desktop app receives the changes that are already available through other channels.

Discussion spark: Should an AI agent choose different models for delegated tasks automatically, or should people decide the routing themselves?
