Krea 3 and xAI’s Grok Imagine Image 2.0 make different editing promises, but only Grok has a third-party leaderboard score so far. That leaves buyers weighing a vendor speed claim against a measure of image-editing preference, not choosing between two neatly comparable verdicts.

xAI Watch analysis

What happened

An analysis by OrcaRouter says Grok Imagine Image 2.0 scored 1,110 Elo across 7,792 blind comparisons on Artificial Analysis’s image-editing leaderboard. It says Krea 3, released on 15 October, has no entry on that board. Krea’s own figures, as quoted by OrcaRouter, put edits at under eight seconds in native 2K for six cents each. That speed and price are vendor claims, not independent measurements.

The two tools also take different approaches. OrcaRouter describes Krea 3 as focused on edits to a selected region, while Grok Imagine Image 2.0 offers features including multi-image input and Smart Resize, which recomposes an image for different aspect ratios. The report says neither model has open weights.

Why it matters

An Elo score offers a view of how people preferred outputs in blind comparisons; it does not tell you how quickly the model works or whether it will preserve the detail your job depends on. A stopwatch gives a speed figure, but not an independent measure of edit quality. For teams choosing an image editor, those are useful but different kinds of evidence.

That makes the practical choice depend on the task. A team making regional edits may value Krea’s approach; one adapting images to multiple formats may find Grok’s reframing tools more relevant. Neither benchmark rank nor a vendor’s speed figure settles how either performs on a particular workflow.

Our read

The comparison is most useful as a reminder to match the test to the job. Try representative images and edits before building a production workflow around either tool. A leaderboard can narrow the search; it cannot tell you whether your product label survives the makeover.

What to watch

  • Whether Krea 3 receives an independent image-editing evaluation.
  • Whether comparable, independent speed tests emerge for both models.
  • How each tool handles the specific edits and formats teams need in practice.

Discussion spark: For an image-editing tool, would you trust a third-party quality ranking more than a vendor’s speed and price claims, or do you need both before choosing?
